Question by Hally M: Will Christians who oppose stem cell research boycott this cure for blindness?
“BRITISH scientists have developed the world’s first stem cell therapy to cure the most common cause of blindness. ”

From this article:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/health/article6122757.ece#cid=OTC-RSS&attr=2015164

Is the Christian objection to using embryonic stem cells going to extend to their boycotting of the results? If you oppose this research, are you going to deny yourself and/or your children the chance to be cured of blindness?

Just curious how far your ethics extend.
**mt 75689 — this is not a swipe, this is an honest question about how far Christian ethics extend, and if, even though they do not support embryonic stem cell research, they will still be partaking in the fruits of it. If this question exposes some latent hypocrisy, it’s not MY fault. Don’t shoot the message-bearer.

Just don’t murder an innocent and yet unborn baby to get those stem cells, and I’ll be quite fine with the stem cell cures.

Before you go take the life of an innocent baby prior to his or her first breath, do it to yourself first and see how YOU like YOUR life being aborted, and if it suits you fine to have YOUR life taken from you, then you go right ahead and take the life of the unborn baby.

It is, after all, hypocritical to say you support abortion if you’re already living!

Question by Sridhar: Can you send me this poem by Milton?
You surely may have heard of the poem “On His Blindness” by John Milton.
There is a similar one called “On the Blindness of Samson” (or it is “On Samson’s Blindness”) written by Milton.
I looked for it in the internet but was unable to find it. Could you send it to me, if you can get hold of it?
Many Thanks.

On His Blindness

WHEN I consider how my light is spent
E’re half my days, in this dark world and wide,
And that one Talent which is death to hide,
Lodg’d with me useless, though my Soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, least he returning chide,
Doth God exact day-labour, light deny’d,
I fondly ask; But patience to prevent
That murmur, soon replies, God doth not need
Either man’s work or his own gifts, who best
Bear his milde yoak, they serve him best, his State
Is Kingly. Thousands at his bidding speed
And post o’re Land and Ocean without rest:
They also serve who only stand and waite.

Question by Liberator: Cups of coffee and 3 hrs of sleep. When should I start this?
Im a senior in high school. I’ve heard of stories where college kids stay up all night getting at max 3 hours of sleep or none at all. And during the day, they’d chug down at least three cups of coffee. I’m in college level course, and the homework load is exceeding the extreme. And I was wondering.

Is it healthy to start this “adult syndrome” now? Or should I wait until I’m in college?

Best answer:

Answer by April
I don’t think you should ever start these bad habits, you can go on 3 hrs of sleep for a very small amount of time, eventually it will catch up with you and your body will not be able to take it. You will feel bad and your immune system and brain will not be at full capacity. Try to get as much sleep as possible and eat as healthy as possible.

Question by kidflex: Can someone help me understand this “body language” symbol?
What does it mean if a member of the opposite sex (or same sex) sees your appearance and uses their cell phone to “pretend” to text or dial numbers? Is that a flirting sign or symbol or do they maliciously want to annoy you? I am kind of slow, so I don’t pick on body language symbols.
Are they trying to grab your attention? I don’t get it.

Question by LA: does this person have ‘small man syndrome’?
i have a relative on my mother side, married to a guy about 5’7″, and has some sort of cockiness about him, that at first, i didn’t pay any mind. Now, mind you, i don’t even speak to my mother side of the family, so i rarely have any contact with the guy. But, from my rare experiences with him, he seem to have symptoms of the so called “small man syndrome”, or whatever you want to call it. i say this, because one night when i was with my mother, to help her with something, he seem to get offended that i didn’t take him serious or something.

now mind you, i’m visiting my grandmother and mother, and rarely have contact with the guy, but he acts the same way with my uncles on my mother side. now mind you, my uncles are all 5’10 and above, and i’m 6’1″ myself, so this guy is the shortest male on my mother side of the family, he married a relative of mine on my mother side. now my rare experiences with him i’ve noticed, that he’s very possessive of his wife, every time my uncles and i are standing up talking and laughing, he seems to get upset, and comes in the circle and try to boast and brag.

i’ve never noticed this about him before, because i rarely have contact with him, but from these rare experiences with him, he seem a little insecure about his height, and possessive of his wife when other taller males come around. i have no problems with males consider ‘short’ or ‘below average height’, because i don’t see height, i see the person. also, because in high school i was short, and didn’t hit my growth spurt until later on in high school. i went from 5’4″ to 6’1″ in one summer, right when i was about to graduate from high school.

i was small but didn’t care, because i was focused on making music, i’m an aspiring music producer, i suffered from a condition called constitutional growth delay, which means that my bones were younger than my actual age. the doctor said my body was growing normally, but my bones were younger than my age. what this means is that an 11 yr boy could have bones the age of a 7 yr boy. seriously, it’s called bone age.

but, anyway, i didn’t care, because my bone age was 3 to 4 yrs behind my actual age, which means that i was small my entire school yrs, and didn’t hit my growth spurt until getting ready to graduate high school. when i was ‘small’ i didn’t notice, others use to tease me, and tell me to go back to middle school, because they said i literally looked liked a middle school student. but i didn’t care, because i didn’t care about fitting in, girls, going out, etc. i just wanted to make music.

so, i have perspective on both fronts of this ‘situation’, being small a good number of years, and now being 6’1″. and you know what, i didn’t mind being considered ‘small’ because my personality preferred it. i loved to have girls dismiss me, i loved being able to walk into a room and going unnoticed, because i didn’t want or need attention.

but the guy, my relative on my mother side married to, seems to like to walk up to taller guys and start altercations with them, even when the taller guy is minding his business. i told you, he wants to walk into a room and have people notice him, he wants attention, and if he walks into the room and no one notices him, or pay him any mind, he become upset, i’ve seen this from him.

most guys, i’ve run across considered ‘short’, or ‘below average height’ are cool individuals, and don’t fit this so called ‘syndrome’ except for the guy my relative on my mother side married. i remember recently another relative of mine on my mother side got married. at the wedding reception a tall guy was standing to my other relative, and the guy i’m talking about came strutting and preening, around the tall guy. the tall guy looked down and was like, calm down, i’m not trying to talk to your wife.
his wife is very cool, down to earth, friendly, but every time he walks into a room, and gets possessive over her, starts acting cocky, i wonder, what did she see in him. i’m sorry, but if i was a female, i would see past his facade. even others notice it, but i didn’t, because i rarely come in contact with the guy.

every time he try to start an altercation with a taller dude, it’s around one of my uncles, he’s around 6’0″, so when me and him talk, we’re face to face somewhat, me being an inch taller, but the guy gets upset, as if i’m leaving him out of the conversation.

if people out there think, he has this so called ‘syndrome’, i would like to know your advice on dealing with him, because, it’s silly to me. individuals can’t control their height, so why act out around taller individuals, who in turn can’t control their height also.

Question by music <3: Do you like this joke? (I love it!)?
A local United Way office realized that the organization had never received a donation from the town’s most successful lawyer. The person in charge of contributions called him to persuade him to contribute.
“Our research shows that out of a yearly income of at least $ 500,000, you give not a penny to charity. Wouldn’t you like to give back to the community in some way?”
The lawyer mulled this over for a moment and replied, “First, did your research also show that my mother is dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that are several times her annual income?”
Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbled, “Um … no.”
The lawyer interrupts, “or that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair?”
The stricken United Way rep began to stammer out an apology, but was interrupted again.
“or that my sister’s husband died in a traffic accident,” the lawyer’s voice rising in indignation, “leaving her penniless withthree children?!”
The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, said simply, “I had no idea…”
On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again, “So if I don’t give any money to them, why should I give any to you?”

Question by ℒℴѵℯ.: How do I dedicate this book?
A friend of mine has her birthday and I’m giving her the book “Blindness” of Jose Saramago. I don’t have any idea how to dedicate it though… I mean, should I just wish her happy birthday or is there any quote I could write down? She has become 20 and is finishing university this year.
Thank you in advance! =)

Just write happy birthday and something like I am so proud of you and if there is a quote in the book that you are giving her that has something related to this then write it down too. or just go on this link. It has a lot of quotes for those graduating.

This one is pretty funny: “Your families are extremely proud of you. You can’t imagine the sense of relief they are experiencing. This would be a most opportune time to ask for money.” ~Gary Bolding

Question by Kathleen: What does this dream about a ghost mean?
i recently moved in with my friend for school. about 2 nights ago i was sleeping on the floor of her parents were carrying a videroom and i had a dream. in this dream her parents and i were in the living room of the house. her parents had a camera and have been talking to this one ghost for a couple of nights. His name was Daniel. but he would get mad at them and he would scream at her parents because that wasnt actually his name. thats when i asked him what was his name was. he told me to guess. so i asked does it start with an “N”? he said “yes”. then i guess “Nick”. thats when the basement doors flew open and i heard a faint whisper that said “meet me downstairs”. i didnt go. later on still in the dream. i was sitting in the living room on the couch. the ghost “nick” came in on a wheelchair, he was old. he stopped and looked at me and his face changed characters meaning different people. i dont know why. i woke up in the morning and that night i told my friends mom about my dream and this is what she said. “that’s weird because someone died in this house, and there used to be an elevator in this house for an old man in a wheelchair”. i knew there was an elevator in the house already. but i didnt know the old man was in a wheelchair. we don’t know what his name was. and i dont know what all this means. please help!

Question by haygurl: Who would I need to contact for this kind of problem at work?
I had a job for a week and they just recently called to tell me it “wasn’t working out” and that I have a “confidence issue”. After working there for 3 days (2 of the days being training, as it said on the schedule) I realized I wouldn’t be happy working here because of how the other employees treated me, talking about how much they “hate all the new people” and how they’re all “so stupid” and just how they treated the new people in general made me not have respect for the managers or the other employees. On the 2nd day of working there, they put me out with the customers for the first time on a Friday night with the line out the door. Obviously, I’m going to be nervous about this and the fact that they’re yelling at me to go faster and that I’m not doing anything right.. then the next time I work it happens again but they get even ruder about their comments to me about not doing my job right and too slow, so I get really frustrated and I know if I say something to them I’ll get fired, so I just keep doing my job as best as I can and am pretty quiet the rest of the night. 2 days later I get a phone call saying it isn’t working out, yet I don’t think they can really tell if I can do the job yet by just 3 days of work, 2 being training and not even a whole day being with customers (customers is the main part of the job). Also, I am learning disabled and legally emotionally disabled because I have bipolar disorder. I have a long history of therapy and medications for this problem. They did not know this before hiring me nor did they bother to ask and find out, otherwise I would have told them. Who should I call to report them?

Best answer:

Answer by Andrea
You can’t report them because they did nothing illegal. They might not have been very nice but being a jerk is not against the law. If you think that they should have taken account of your Bipolar disorder and learning disabilities then you should have told them up front about them… it is not their responsibility to ask you, in fact it is against the law for them to ask you if you have a disability….. They have a lot of experience with training new people and they have a very good idea of how quickly someone should be learning….. obviously you were not learning as quickly as other new employees. This may have been due to your disabilities but as you said they were not told about your disabilities. All jobs have a “probationary” period where they determine if you are they right person for the job…. in addition, if you live in the states, employment is on what is called an “at will” basis. This means that an employer can terminate your employment at any time for any reason. Period. They can terminate you just because the boss doesn’t like you….. it’s not illegal.

Next time if you want your disabilities to be considered then you have to tell them upfront…. but keep in mind that they also have a legal right to not hire you if they feel that your disabilities will hinder your performance……..
