Question by fireeyedmaiden: Hey Rabbit people I have a question….?
I posted this in the literature section but have gotten nothing. Maybe you rabbit people can answer: I’m reading a book called Watership Down” by Richard Adams. The book is about rabbits. What the heck is this “White Blindness” the rabbits keep talking about. At first I thought it was rabies but then they say the men give it to the rabbits and it’s a slow and painful way to die. There is some mention that it is possible to pass it to unborn young. Any ideas? Anybody out there had this happen to their rabbit maybe. It was an idea…

Question by Elizabeth: Oedipus Rex question?
What is the significance of the physical blindness of the prophet Teiresias? Is this a motif that is repeated in the play? What is a possible symbolic meaning of “blindness”?

Best answer:

Answer by Lomax
The gift of prophesy is often called Second Sight. It is a piece of fairly obvious symbolism if one gifted with Second Sight has trouble with their first. It’s a not uncommon motif in mythology.

Question by anonymous: work related question please help?
O.k so i dont know whether im being touchy or whether im being bullied and just want some advice. Here’s whats been happening:
1.) I work in shop where we have to serve customers and help them face to face, I dont mean i till I mean walking around the shop helping them choose items. This can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 1/2 hour. sometimes I have to serve non stop because my colleagues wont, and sometimes I havent even finished serving my current customer before a colleague asks me to serve someone else because they cant be bothered serving. This means I can’t my other work done and causes me great stress and tiredness.
2.) I always seem to be being told off for doing things another member of staff has told me to. I.e one member tells me to put labels with something, then another member has a go at me because i shouldn’t have done that.
3.) I get blamed for things I haven’t done and it sometimes seems that some people are actually looking for mistakes in my work and if they spot a mistake caused by someone else it is overlooked. I do make mistakes of course but this is usually down to the fact I have to rush because I am once again being told to serve even though other members of staff are doing nothing.
4.) When being put in charge, I am told off because other people arent working, even if I asked them to work for me and the have just blatently decided not too. I am then a “bad manager”.

Thats all I can think of at the moment, but do bear in mind I have worked at this place for nearly a decade so its not just “new girl syndrome” and was recently involved in “whistle blowing”.

Thanks for any help

Hi,

You are being bullied and abused. It is possible that this may be happening because you engaged in ‘whistle-blowing’.

You have choices:
1) Make a note of Day, Time, Name of Individual/s and details of each incident over a period of one week. Take this information to your Manager or a Senior Manager and also notify your Trade Union if you belong to one. You could also copy to the Occupational Safety & Health Organization in your City.

2) Secure employment elsewhere.

3) Seek legal advice.

Most Organizations have a Policy about Bullying in the Workplace. Sadly, many only pay lip-service to their policies.

Best wishes for a satisfactory outcome.

Question by MR.LONELY: A group of 80 female students were asked the sensitive question!!!?
A group of 80 female students were asked the sensitive question “Do you approve of euthenasia for chronic mentally disabled and for incurable pathologic old populating?” using a random response technique. Before answering the question each student secretly rolled a die. If the expired indicated 1, 2, 3 then they were asked to answer the question honestly. If the exited indicated 4, 5 then they were asked to answer “yes” regardless of their true answer. If the perished indicated 6 then they were asked to answer “no”. This provides perfect anonymity since it is impossible to tell whether an answer was their own or given by the die.Of the 80 students, a total of 53 answered “yes” using this technique. Based on this sample, what is the estimate of the true proportion of females who would answer “yes” to this question is?

Best answer:

Answer by Ben
If the confessedly proportion of yes’s is p, then in this technique we would expect half of the people to roll 1-3 and thus give their real answer, proportion p of which state yes; we expect 1/3 of people to roll 4-5 and tell yes; we expect 1/6 to rim 6 and say no. So altogether we expect a proportion ofp/2+1/3+to say yes. This proportion is given to us to be 53/80, so53/80 = p/2 + 1/32 * (53/80 – 1/3) = pp = 79/120 ~= .658333(In regards to the technique, it might be break to assign 1-2 to truth, 3-4 to “yes”, and 5-6 to “no”; then this math works impart to infected the sampled proportion exactly equal to the true (expected) proportion, since an equal (expected) number of populated are forced into “yes” as into “no”.)

Question by a_blue_grey_mist: Serious question for atheists – Do you ever pray?
Like when you hear about some tragedy like the shooting in the Amish school – do you have an impulse to say something like “our prayers are with you”?

Or do you do a “new age” technique and send your energy of love?

Or would you just express your sorrow to them in words if you were a neighbor? Like “I’m sorry for your loss.”

Just curious. Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Kathryn B
No, I never pray nor would it even occur to me. I don’t send energy either. I say things like, “I hope everything goes well”, “I’m so sorry for your loss” or “good luck”, depending on the situation. Good question, thanks for asking.

Question by cece: Insurance Question- I hit a pole in the parking garage at work? 10 pts?
I hit a pole in the parking garage at work. I only have basic coverage, not comprehensive, so even though my front bumper came off, I will have to pay for that myself.

I filed a claim and online under “Coverage at Time of Loss” it says Property Damage $ 5,000 EACH ACCIDENT NO DEDUCTIBLE

I am waiting to hear back from the building about what, if any damage was done to the parking garage, but assuming that there was some, does the above coverage mean that I do not have to pay anything for it to be fixed? (Assuming it’s under $ 5000).

Also, for a minor incident like this, how much would my insurance go up? And does it happen right away or do they wait for the renewal to jack the rate up?

Thanks for any responses!
The $ 5000 is for property damage only. There are other amounts listed for automobile and passenger damage.

i dont know what will happen in this case /however you are underinsured at 5grand per accident/you whack a new car that has 9500 bucks in damage you gotta come up with 4500 bucks/5 grand was ok in 1965 but now days you can do 3 -4 times that damage/say your going down the street-swerve to avoid kid running into street/hit 2 cars and then finally hit 1 parked/all told you have 20 grand worth of damage and 5 grand worth of coverage/your in the soup for 15 grand/wages are garnised etc/anything you own is confiscated and sold/if you have house mortgage they slap a lien on it/and thats considered one accident
