Question by Fred: Would throwing billions more $ ‘s into predominately “black” schools really help the results?
They already get 5 times as much per student as say, Montana, Oklahoma, South Dakota, West Virginia, ETC. That, plus free breakfast, lunch and in many cases, dinner. And not the usual comeback “It is poverty and lack of hope”. Many very poor in West Virginia and they manage to at least go to school and graduate at 3 times the rate of those in Detroit. Even in “mixed” schools with the same everything at “home” the blacks lag far behind. I know someone that has a kid with “Downs Syndrome”, no matter how much money they throw at her, she still just is different, yes they tell her she is just the same as everybody else, but they know different, same as these black schools. Not a rant, but any legit answers why most blacks just ain’t got it?

Answer by Eva
I think there are a number of factors besides poverty that make predominately black schools not perform well. Some of them we can’t eliminate completely like social norms, the media, and violence. Poverty is only part of the problem. It’s a vicious cycle so giving them more money isn’t going to change the results.
The situation with Downs Syndrome is different. Of course she is not going to cured of Downs Syndrome. They want her to have a happy, healthy life and be as functional as possible. The goal is not to make her more normal but to help her live up to her full function as an adult.

Question by Pilgrim: Should we change the phrase “global warming” to something more inflammatory like “irritable globe syndrome”?
Since the purpose of the “global warming” debate is to transfer money from polluters into the pockets of environmentalist alarmists, we need a more neutral, less easily defined phrase that nobody can really pin down and prove doesn’t happen.
Global warming is so specific it’s almost worthless when weather statistics don’t cooperate, but “irritable globe syndrome” is universally applicable! Every weather anomaly is easily attributed to such a squishy, imprecise, meaningless phrase.
it’s time to change. YES WE CAN!
Defending Sanity:
I suggest you read something other than those paid to confirm global warming. You know, the 80% of scientists that say it’s a load of bollocks.
C’mon Grandma zaza, “global climate disruption” isn’t anywhere NEAR as clever as “irritable globe syndrome”. It almost paints a mental picture of AlGore giving the planet an enema.
Fractured Fairy Tales:
I’m probably more of an environmentalist than you are, and I can prove it! I just parted with $ 26k for solar panels to entirely neutralize my carbon footprint . . . have you?

Question by Morrigahn: How can we make people more respectful of people w/ hidden disabilities?
At first glance, strangers can’t tell that I’m disabled. My disability is not physical. Even after people know that I’m disabled, it is unfathomable how heartless & cruel they can be. “That’s not a disability!” or “You must have done something to deserve what happened!” I’ve heard just about everything you could imagine. I was diagnosed with Major Recurrant Depression and Borderline Personality Disorder. I was molested by a daycare provider for four years. I have been raped twice. Almost raped a third time, I was able to escape the last time. I was married to an alcoholic for fifteen years, he beat every chance he got. I hid what was happening to me, I was so ashamed. One day he put a gun to my head & said he was going to kill me… in front of our two boys… after he told me that he had been having an affair. I took my sons with only the clothes we were wearing & left. We never went back. Three years ago I had a break down after I was fired on Christmas day.

It sounds as if you had a tough life. Whether provoked or not like the allegations ppl have made, nobody deserves that. People respect what they know. Prove them wrong. You do not have a disablity but rather a cure. You know the problem that is ailing you now. That is the first step. You have sought after help. Thats the second. Now teach people. Earn that respect not for yourself but for others. Stay busy with your children, forgive those who harmed you and live for today. Day tight compartments. Be thankful for the day you are in and forget the past. Yesterdays got you here. Todays will get you where you want to be.

Question by The Reverend Soleil: Who is more moral…?
1.) Do you:
a.) Abhor slavery, or
b.) Condone it, even to the point of selling one’s daughters into slavery (Exodus 21:7) and allowing masters to beat slaves to death since “he is his money” (Exodus 21:20-21)?
2.) Would you:
a.) Condemn any act of genocide, or
b.) Command it of your followers, slaughtering even down to the last infant (1Samuel 15:2-3)?
3.) Would you:
a.) Insist that “the punishment fit the crime”, or
b.) Demand infinite punishment for a finite transgression (Matthew 25:46)?
4.) Are you:
a.) Tolerant of others regardless of physical handicap, or
b.) Would being near someone with a disability “profane (your) sanctuaries” (Lev. 21:17-23)?
5.) Should a rapist:
a.) be thrown in prison, or
b.) be required to marry his victim (Deut. 22:28-29)?
If you answered “A” to ANY of these questions, congratulations! You are more moral than Jesus-who-is-also-God himself; and you have shown the absurdities of the biblegod’s laws [which Jesus' sacrifice couldn't possibly have done away with, as they are both perfect (Psa 19:7) and eternal (Psa. 119:160)].
To “NewCatholic”: what CONTEXT could POSSIBLY make discrimination, slavery, or genocide acceptable? You inherently know they’re wrong, and you’re a human being; why wouldn’t an infinitely wise and compassionate deity be able to figure it out?

The moral person does NOT judge others or take Gods word out of context.

Question by HealthNut: What happens when you’re on an insurance plan and can’t work any more?
Hi–What happens if I’m on a medical insurance plan and am incapacitated (long-term) due to illness? I’m worried about this because I have a long, LONG history of both physical and emotional/mental health problems. I struggle daily with depression, and if I get too out of my “comfort zone,” anxiety can really take over and make my life HELL. OCD can flare up, and the anxiety can cause physical illness as well.
I work as a server and babysitter…needless to say, neither of those offer great options for financial security, and I am not yet eligible for the insurance plan from the serving job. I go off my parents’ insurance plan in October, and the health insurance from the restaurant won’t kick in ’til January. And then what happens if I get sick again and have to quit? I’m guessing the insurance wouldn’t cover me for long…?
Is there something I can buy independently, maybe? Some “long-term disability” health insurance company or plan? I know nothing about this stuff and just want to make sure I’m not left jobless AND med/doctorless…and input would be appreciated. Thanks!!!:)
