By: Roberta (Bobbie) Lock, Alice Huang, and Marianne Zhao (Poolesville High School) This is the video of our device (the newspaper packaging device) that has been entered into the High School level competition for the Ability One Network Design Challenge 2011. We worked with Community Support Services (CSS), which is a non profit organization in Gaithersburg, MD. We worked with several developmentally disabled people (mostly autistic) who package newspapers on a weekly basis for a few hours for the local Gazette. We hope that our device will improve their efficiency. Thanks to everyone who helped us along the way!

@datopat and @mankrum thank you so much for the kind comments! We had a fantastic time working with everyone at CSS and are so greatful for all the support. We’d also like to inform you that we intend to keep working on this project. We are currently in contact with a few scout masters in hopes that our device can be turned into an eagle scout project to create duplicates of the product for CSS. Thanks again!!
Ditto datapat. I am Richard’s mom and I think this video was amazingly well put together. The project as well as the video was realistic and positive. The narrative was concise, informative and very well delivered. Thank you everyone at Poolesville High who worked on this.
My son is a client at CSS and I am so impressed with this project. The work and thought that went into it is fantastic! Hopefully some of you will continue to use your creativity for Adults with Autism and Developmental Disabilities in the future! Thank You!
