Leaky gut syndrome is an odd disease. Many normal people have an idea of what it is, just from the name, but many medical professionals don’t think its real. There is only one cause of this disease, and conventional medicine doesn’t cure it. However, you can get rid of it with a holistic approach. Once you are cured, there are ways to prevent it from happening again.

Do you know that your digestive tract is like a long tube starting from your mouth down to your colon? In understanding the cause of leaky gut syndrome, it’s important to first understand a little about your anatomy. The mouth, throat, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines… all these body parts perform their own job to complete the digestion process.

So what is affected if you have been diagnosed with leaky gut syndrome? The answer is, your colon. A coat on the walls of your colon, called mucoid plaque, builds up and start to develop small leaks in its membrane. This coating is made of undigested food that has failed to leave your body.

As of this date, no known is proven and tested to cure leaky gut syndrome. But since the disease is caused by a build up of undigested food left coating the walls of your colon, a colon cleanse might be a solution. It does make sense, because cleansing your colon will help the build up to break down. Others think that laxatives may work, but it won’t. Because laxatives can only force today’s digested food to come out your body.

In cleansing your colon, take note of the following: 1) Make sure that the colon cleansing formula doesn’t contain harmful chemicals and 2) Even, herbal cleanses may be harmful to your body, so do not cleanse your colon frequently. It may take more than one cleansing to totally get rid off the buildup in your colon, so be patient. Cleansing your colon once a month or every other month is advisable.

In terms of preventing leaky gut syndrome, colon cleansing is not the solution. The only way to prevent the disease from ever happening again is by totally changing your lifestyle. Start eating healthy food. Raw vegetables and fruits preferably. And of course, drink a lot of water. This will help you have a bowel movement regularly, making the build up less likely to occur.

Exercise is another way to prevent leaky gut syndrome. Daily movement is helpful to keeping your colon healthy and free form any disease.
