There are several newsworthy accounts of Munchausen syndrome by proxy in recent history, which have made the news. This article briefly details the crimes of two women one a mother and the other a nurse. Each have multiple counts of murder against them, and went to prison.
Waneta Hoyt
One of longest unpunished cases was the case of a mother in upstate New York who had five children between 1965 and 1971. All of them died at the hand of the woman who gave birth to them, the youngest was a month and a half, and the oldest was two and a half years old. At the time of each child was thought to have died as the result of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome more commonly called SIDS.
It was not until an official investigation was launched in 1992 was the end near for their mother Waneta Hoyt. After a trial in 1995, Mrs. Hoyt was sentenced to five life terms for causing the deaths of her babies: Eric, Julie, James, Molly, and Noah. This case not only sent ripples through our local area but worldwide.
The primary doctor of the two youngest Hoyt children wrote a paper on SIDS, and because the last two children in the family died in the same manner as their siblings, he was convinced that SIDS ran in families. That is how his paper read, and it became widely regarded as the cause of all SIDS deaths. That doctor never considered the possibility that the mother was killing her own children. It is speculated that Mrs. Hoyt had Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.
Beverley Alliott
She was nicknamed the ‘Angel of Death’ and a nurse at a hospital in England. Within fifteen days she killed, four babies whom she was caring for, and injured another nine during that time. Ms. Alliott would inject her small patients with potassium chloride or insulin. The potassium would cause a heart attack while the insulin would make the babies hypoglycemic.
She was discovered when the thirteenth child came down with similar symptoms as the others. It was learned that she was alone with all the babies when they suffered from her actions. The nurse went to prison in 1993where she is currently serving life.
To all the staff and parents prior to her capture, Ms. Alliott seemed to be an angel, caring for the children, and rocking them to sleep. One couple even made the nurse the Godparent of their daughter; of course, this was without the knowledge that the infant was already injected with the medicines, which would leave her paralyzed, brain damaged and deaf. The parents did not realize at that time that the nurse had killed the infant’s twin sister.

Edwards syndrome is a hereditary disorder. It is the almost popular autosomal trisomy after Down Syndrome that carries to term. Edwards’ syndrome is caused by an additional transcript of chromosome 18. For this cause, it is too called trisomy 18 syndrome. The extra chromosome is lethal for most babies born with this condition. Major causes of death include apnea and heart abnormalities. A chromosome is a rod-like structure present in the nucleus of all body cells, with the exception of the red blood cells, and which stores genetic information. It is impossible to predict the exact prognosis of an Edwards Syndrome child during pregnancy or the neonatal period. Edward’s syndrome also results in significant developmental delays. For this reason a full-term Edward’s syndrome baby may well exhibit the breathing and feeding difficulties of a premature baby.
Edwards syndrome causes leading physical abnormalities and serious psychological retardation, and really few children afflicted with this disease endure beyond a year. Women old than their earlier thirties have a greater danger of conceiving a kid with trisomy 18, but it can happen in younger women. Surviving children with Edwards’ syndrome have marked developmental and motor delays. Their verbal communication is severely impaired, and is limited to a few single words at best, but they are mostly aware of their environment and are able to communicate some of their needs non-verbally. Affected people have two copies of chromosome 18, plus extra material from chromosome 18 attached to another chromosome.
Most children born with Edwards’ syndrome seem feeble and delicate, and they are frequently underweight. The chief is remarkably tiny and the rear of the chief is outstanding. The ears are malformed and low-set, and the lip and jaw are tiny. Frequently, the hands are clenched into fists, and the index finger overlaps the other fingers. The child may have clubfeet and toes may be webbed or fused. Abnormalities often occur in the lungs and diaphragm, and heart defects and blood vessel malformations are common. The child may also have malformed kidneys and abnormalities of the urogenital system. Infants born with Edwards syndrome also have mental retardation, heart defects, and other organ malformations such that most systems of the body are affected.
There is no cure for Edwards’ syndrome. Treatment of the child is supportive but life sustaining measures are not recommended. Considerable thought and discussion is recommended before undertaking measures such as surgical correction of abnormalities. In most cases, only analgesia is offered to a child with Edwards’ syndrome. Abnormalities can be treated to a certain degree with surgery, but extreme invasive procedures may not be in the best interests of an infant whose lifespan is measured in days or weeks. Medical therapy often consists of supportive care with the goal of making the infant comfortable, rather than prolonging life. An enema should not given to the baby or child because it can deplete electrolytes and alter body fluid composition.

It usually sickens me when I see people fail in their home business just because of one problem.
Many home business people are discouraged from trying to learn new knowledge or skills that will take their businesses to a new level because of time issues. They already feel that their lives are too busy and they don’t see how it is possible to fit more commitments into their already jammed schedules. Other home business entrepreneurs take an overly laid-back approach to business adventure. They sign themselves up for marketing forums and affiliate programs and then don’t take those forums and programs seriously. At the end of the month or year they wonder why their business, income and lives has not improved!
This is as a result of the problem of the “later “syndrome. (Never do today what you can put off for tomorrow. Better yet, never put off ’til tomorrow what you can avoid altogether! ) The later syndrome is a very big hindrance to many home businesses. Does your home business also suffer from this syndrome? What is the later syndrome anyway? This is where by a home business owner puts off what he/she should have done today, for a later time. Simply put, the “later” syndrome is “procrastination”. Other people prefer to call it the “tomorrow syndrome” Procrastination can manifest itself in ways as simple as taking too long to write an ezine ad, putting off article submission or letting slide the date when you promised yourself you’d start an advertising campaign. The later syndrome in our home businesses is something we can be aware of and deal with over time. Procrastination is so lethal to your home business. You should avoid it. The future of your home business depends on you, just the same as with an athlete, an actor or anyone else who depends on peak personal performance to make a living. That’s why everyone who wants to be successful in their home businesses has to take steps to deal with the ” later syndrome” if and when it appears. How do you deal with the “later” syndrome?
Try to ensure that you be disciplined. If you have scheduled a task to be done today, do it. Do not put it off for a later date or time. In other words, improve your time management skills.
Just remember that success in home business is a result of simple disciplines performed every day. Such simple disciplines include sticking to your work shedule no matter what. For example, if you are supposed to write an article for submission today, write it. Do not give room to any excuses that may tempt you to write it later.
Failure in any home business is a result of cumulative errors in judgment and decision repeated every day. Such simple errors include procrastination (Also known as the “later” syndrome.
Another technique is to create an environment where you can fully concentrate on your work. Not all people can concentrate in a noisy and chaotic environment. So have a well designated home business office with a conducive environment favorable for concentration.
So, if you think you need success in your home business, you should steer away from the “later” syndrome. In summary, you can fight the later syndrome in your home business by following these points.

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a condition that not many people know a lot about. Sure, we all see the commercials for it and hear about the “creepy-crawly” feeling its patients suffer from, but what does RLS feel like? Does it feel like insects inside the skin? Constant motion of the legs is one of the effects, but what can you do to stop this disease? Does Tramadol medication really work? What are the other symptoms?
First of all Restless Leg Syndrome is a disorder where a person feels the need to keep moving his or her legs in order to stop tingling, aching, or crawling sensations. These occurrences often happen at night when a person is lying down. They can also happen during the day if a person sits still for a long time. Sometimes they last for over an hour and they can occur in the arms too. A person who has RLS will move his or her legs constantly in order to make the sensations go away.
Sometimes people who suffer from RLS even move their legs while they’re sleeping.
It’s not really clear what causes people to suffer from RLS, but it is a very inconvenient condition to have, as it makes sitting still very difficult. People with kidney disease and Parkinson’s disease may suffer from RLS. Oftentimes women who are pregnant experience the condition. People who are iron deficient have also been known to have RLS.
There aren’t really any tests to diagnose whether or not a person has RLS, only tests to determine whether or not a person has any of the other conditions listed above. Thankfully, RLS is not known to be dangerous or fatal. It is simply an inconvenient condition that may lead to a patient having trouble sleeping.
As far as treating RLS, there is really not one specific treatment that works for all patients. Before taking medication, a doctor might recommend that a person suffering from RLS indulge in warm baths or stretching. Massages are also supposed to be good for RLS.
There are sleeping medications that can be taken for nighttime RLS, but one of the best known treatments is Tramadol medication. It is a narcotic that has often been used to treat RLS patients.
If you feel like you might or know that you are suffering from RLS, you should speak with your doctor about Tramadol medication immediately.
