An estimated 5000 Disabled People and supporters protested outside Parliament and marched to Millbank (Tory Party HQ), against the coalition governments planned cuts – in the guise of welfare reform to disability and long term sickness benefits. This includes scrapping IB (Incapacity Benefit) and DLA (Disability Living Allowance). The protest highlighted other service cuts for Disabled People, which attacked Independent living and education, to name just a few. It is felt by many that the government are manufacturing and using negative coverage of welfare benefit claimants in the media, in order to target vulnerable individuals and groups within the community. Those who are effectively silenced by non-existent positive or supportive press coverage, as was in fact the case with this peaceful protest, gaining virtually no coverage by the mainstream media/press.

I saw no Sky or B.B.C. film coverage of this protest by 5,000 disabled -only text comment and low on that list. Yet last night B.B.C. showed film and a short interview of a “Tax Alliance” protest that Government spending cuts should be more severe. How many protestors(which included Tory M.P.s were there??? 350.
