I don’t know about on-line books or e-books. But you can find discounted textbooks, new and used, at:
abebooks.com

powellsbooks.com

ebay.com

half.com

amazon.com

chegg.com
http://www.chegg.com/?tpl=g1&s_tnt=20308:9:0
cheapesttextbooks.com
http://www.cheapesttextbooks.com/
I have used abebooks with great success. I have always gotten what I need in good order and very quickly. Sometimes the book that I want is not available right away. I always start to watch for it early.
I have never used powellsbooks, chegg, or cheapesttextbooks, so I cannot recommend them. (The latter advertises on TV as being very cheap, but their prices seem high to me.)
With all eBay companies, you have to be extra careful about who you are buying from. The Seller is often just a person, routinely overworked and inept, not a professional business entity. Buying through eBay is always a gamble. And “media” is one of the most nefarious categories that eBay has. (I have checked the feedback forum and found that most of the complaints are due to Sellers offering warehouse books that are not really available and extremely slow shipping. So, while no real damage is done in these cases, it is a waste of time, and you can miss-out on other auctions. [Never buy from eBay if you are in a hurry.]) EBay now stands behind sales, so at least you have some remedy if you actually get burnt.
Things to be careful about:
1. always be careful when buying on-line
2. watch shipping costs– especially when buying multiple books; they add-up quickly.
3. pay attention to condition and the publication dates. (Some books are moldy, damaged, horribly out-of-date, missing the DVDs, or the DVD is already registered to someone else and you cannot use it.) Consider Sellers’ reputations. I only deal with “four-star” Sellers, personally.
4. google will produce many “used textbooks” listings; many of those are charlatans. Stick with bona fide companies.
Search the Yahoo!Answers archives as I notice that this question has been asked and answered before. (Check both “text books”, two words, and “textbooks”, one word.)
When you are done with them, abebooks will buy many text books back. (Others might, too.) This offsets any original investment. So, treat them gingerly. (No ink or food stains.)

Question by Danny: Would someone please talk some sense into my disgusting, narcissistic brother?
(I’m going to post this question accurately describing my brother and then show it to him once there are a good dozen answers)
Hello! I’m Dave, and about 7 years ago I was in a bad car accident that was the result of me driving while intoxicated–but hey, everyone makes mistakes. Anyway, as a result, I have impaired motor skills and I am now confined to a wheelchair, although I am not paralyzed. I live with my sister, who takes care of me.
Since I’m in a wheelchair, I think that in addition to getting special treatment both at home and outside, it’s fine for me to make sexually suggestive comments to girls I don’t know when I’m on the bus, or grab their behinds.
Sex is all I usually talk about, (I like to open my conversations with “Hey baby, I love you–wanna f*ck?”) The longest relationship I ever had was about two weeks–afterwards, she changed her number and wouldn’t answer her door when I would come.
I also love to spend an exorbitant amount of time on the internet, surfing dating sites and stalking women with multiple screennames as well as calling them repeatedly. Since there is nothing special about me, I also love to make up stories about myself when I talk to them–my favorite ones being that I’m a billionaire, or that I was put in wheelchair after being shot during a bank robbery while rescuing a hostage. In fact, I’m so addicted to lying that I actually started saying that I have a brain disorder that gives me a bad headache everytime I lie–so everything I say is the truth.
I’ve been contacted numerous times by the police from various departments for repeatedly calling women at all hours of the day. I tell them “Hey, don’t talk to me like that! I’m in a wheelchair!”
If you ever say anything I don’t agree with in any discussion, I’ll call you an a*sshole or various other nasty names…and if you get on me, I’ll tell you “Hey, I’m in a wheelchair! You can’t talk to me like that!” When my sister doesn’t make my food the way I like it, I’ll call her a b*tch, throw the plate across the kitchen, and tell her to make me something else.
Now my sister wants to put me in a state medical ward, and I don’t get why! I’m in a wheelchair, doesn’t that give me special privileges?
Best answer:
Answer by oh no!!!
NO it doesn’t. I understand you are in a wheelchair; but that gives YOU NO RIGHT to treat people bad. But you must not care. So that is you. The police department has even called you. That oughta stop you; but it doesn’t.
Plus you talk about sex in public. Not good, since it is a private subject.
Also stalking is against the law. You are touching girls also….that is unwarranted. Not good.
So these are lies…people do find out. Then you know they will not hang out with you.
I can understand why your sister wants to put you in a state medical ward…It is because of your behavior. Most people would not be able to handle you anyway..and they are not suppose to with the abuse.

Question by Some guy: How do I handle a disaproval of marriage with my GF already even though I’m only 15?
Today, my girlfriend (who’s 17) had her tonsillectomy. I was around so I decided to drop by the hospital if her parents said it was okay and leave some flowers and a get-well card. I called them and they said that was fine, so I went. My girlfriend and I have been together almost 11 months, and have never had one fight. We seriously don’t see ourselves breaking up.
About 20 minutes after I got there, the doctor said it was okay to go home. They got her a wheelchair since she was still a little wobbly because of the medicine, and I jokingly said to her “do you want me to scatter rose pedals in front of your wheelchair?”. She laughed, and her aunt said to her “Enjoy that now, honey! Once marriage hits, say goodbye to that kind of talk!” She was just joking so we all laughed, but my girlfriend’s mom did not laugh. She said in a slightly ticked-off tone, “she’s not getting married.” I didn’t say anything, but I was angry.
We both know we’re young but we still are fairly sure of a future together. I don’t know how to handle her mom’s words. I’ve tried to study some business this afternoon but I can’t stop thinking about what her mom said. Does she mean that she doesn’t approve of me and my girlfriend marrying? I’ve been extremely respectful to her and her parents, and I really think I’ve been more than someone could ask for. Realistically and legally, her mom can’t do anything about it if it does happen. I’ve over-analyzed it and now I’m worried that my girlfriend told her mom she doesn’t want to marry me, but she’s never cheated on me, she’s been the best, nicest, most wonderful girlfriend I could ask for and she says she never wants to lose me. So I’m pretty sure I’m just over-worried.
What do you think her mom meant? How should I handle this?
Best answer:
Answer by bostonfan148
You went to see her in the hospital, you never fight with her, you seem like a nice guy. I think her mom was being protective, like she doesn’t want her daughter to get married yet. But a majority of people do get married and it would be tough to stop. Just keep being polite to her family, thats all you can do. Maybe ask her what her mom meant by that because you two seem very close. Good luck!
Can you tell if this girl likes me?

Question by Ferret Lovee.: My anxiety causing horrible physical pain? Help, please?
I have anxiety pretty bad, and I don’t know what I should do about it? Well, It’s gotten so bad, that I won’t even have to be anxious about anything at all and I’ll start gagging horribly. I’m a smoker, addicted to cigarettes , but DON’T TELL ME TO STOP, we’re not getting into that, but if it’s cold outside and I step out to smoke, after 4-6 hits, I start gagging out of nowhere and I won’t even feel really that ill to my stomach. I also have this problem now, I think it’s called “precordial catch syndrome”? I’ll just be sitting down, minding my own business, when I get this killing pain in my chest on the left side under my breast and I have to completely stop breathing because the pain is horrible. I started taking Hydroxyzine for the anxiety and it helped with my physical problems a little bit, but then my body grew used to it and it stopped working. TMI, I know, but not long before I started taking the medication, I would have bad stomach problems to the point that every time I ate something, I had diarrhea afterwards and cramping. I had my gall bladder checked out through a ultra sound, and everything was normal, they also checked my kidneys, spleen, and stuff while they were at it. And my body is odd, I can’t take over-the-counter medications, they never work, trust me, I’ve tried them all. Another thing, I’ll notice my heart will beat normal, then all of a sudden it will beat extremely hard and back to normal, again. I’ve had anxiety attacks before to the point I can’t breathe well, I’d shake so terribly, and my heart beat will be beating too fast. Sometimes, I have my boyfriend every now and then listen to my heartbeat for no reason when I’m only a little bit anxious, but not much at all, and it’ll be pounding like I just ran past several houses even when I don’t move at all. Should I see a doctor for this? And what type of medications do you think will work? OHH, and by the way, I’m 15 years old going on 16. Don’t bring up the smoking, it has nothing to do with it, I’ve been smoking since 11. And don’t be judge-mental. I hate to hear people complaining that I smoke.
Smoking actually helps with my nerves, it does actually calm me down, it’s just when I’m in the cold and I’m smoking it makes me gag. Of course if I wake up early and go somewhere, it makes me sick. I had to quit public schooling and join home schooling cause of the stomach problems.

Question by fireeyedmaiden: Hey Rabbit people I have a question….?
I posted this in the literature section but have gotten nothing. Maybe you rabbit people can answer: I’m reading a book called Watership Down” by Richard Adams. The book is about rabbits. What the heck is this “White Blindness” the rabbits keep talking about. At first I thought it was rabies but then they say the men give it to the rabbits and it’s a slow and painful way to die. There is some mention that it is possible to pass it to unborn young. Any ideas? Anybody out there had this happen to their rabbit maybe. It was an idea…
