2 beers before bed is not a good idea if you are diabetic! Alcohol initially raises the blood glucose level, but then causes a rapid fall. You could end up having a hypo during the night and not regcognise it.

Most second year medical students who study well for the USMLE know that the process that the body uses to break down alcohol takes a chemical away form the process that allows the liver to release sugar to keep your blood sugar regulated.

In other words, drinking alcohol may keep your liver from producing sugar. You need to be careful, however, because this is not a type of reaction you can count on working the same way each time.

I am a type 1 and a few beers at night would increase my blood sugar because of the carbohydrates and I would wake up low. Sometimes very low. I am now on a pump and I no longer drink alcohol, But the dawn syndrome gives me the most trouble. HHmmm Maybe I should drink a few

I have heard that alcohol will cause blood sugar to drop for a bit but who wants to take that chance. I want to wake up in the morning and if my blood sugar is elevated then I take extra insulin. That sounds like russian roulette to me.
