BERLIN (Reuters) – A wheelchair-bound German stunned police when they pulled him over for using the road and found he was 10 times over the legal alcohol limit for drivers.

“He was right in the middle of the road,” said a spokesman for police in the northeastern city of Schwerin Tuesday. “The officers couldn’t quite believe it when they saw the results of the breath test. That’s a life-threatening figure.”
The 31-year-old told police he had been out drinking with a friend and was a little over a mile from home when a squad car stopped him as he passed through the village of Ventschow.
Police said that because the man was technically traveling as a pedestrian, he could not be charged with a driving offence.
“It’s not like we can impound his wheelchair,” the spokesman said. “But he is facing some sort of punishment. It’s just not clear yet what exactly that will be.”

R.U.I.? Rolling under the influence…
Maybe they’ll install a breathalyzer that will only unlock the brakes to the wheelchair after he breathes into it and hasn’t gone over the limit, lol…
In Cali, it would just be Drunk In Public. That’s if the cop could stop laughing long enough to book him. I wouldn’t do him, I’d give him a ride home (If I wasn’t slammed with calls.)
Probably he will get charged with public drunkenness and have to pay a fine
haha it takes all kinds
His punishment? Maybe they should take away his Cocofreze.
he would be facing two charges…1 for public intoxication and the 2nd for jay-walking or in his case jay-rolling down the middle of the road.
With that high of a level, he may not live long enough to face any punishment.
Most likely his punishment would be jaywalking or blocking traffic even though he’s in the wheelchair. If not that, it could be a possibility that his charges may be dropped. By him being drunk, it doesn’t make it illegal unless he put himself in danger or others. By him using the road, he put himself/others in danger so he would be charged for public intoxication. But in Germany, the law may vary.
Was it motorized? lol…I know people that have gotten DUI’s being on bicycles….
A few years in jail.
a frien of mine got busted for being drunk and on a pedal bike
but they just took him home and let him sleep it off .
