Scientists have known for some time that Down Syndrome, the most common chromosomal abnormality, is caused by an additional chromosome #21. However, new fetal stem cell research is demonstrating that it is not only the presence of this additional chromosome, but also what the genes are missing, that may impede the development of a Down Syndrome brain. All 50 Secrets of the Sequence videos have an accompanying classroom-tested lesson that encourages students to further explore the video topics. Each lesson includes background information, state and national science standards, discussion questions and answers, teacher notes and an activity that will ensure a hands-on, “minds-on” experience. So inspiring! :,)
He should of said at 5:53 No more lock doors homes!! Lol
My aunt had a son with Down Syndrome once. She took him on a trip to China and left him there with strangers whom she asked to watch him while she used the washroom. Then she left for home without him. We always wondered whatever became of him. That was like 12 years ago. My guess is the kid is in some type of group home being well taken care of!
THIS IS beautiful very cool how he stayed with him no matter what and fallowed him with a cam. i went to school with a few kids with down syndrome and i had a step brother who also grew up with d.s. much respect. ima a fan 4 life!
wow great video!!!!! and i never would have though id relive a childhood memorie here. I had the same exact huffy with the 6speed shifter in the middle and rene isnt much older than i am. 5 stars on the documenary!!
@Belial690 Downs Syndrome or Trisomy 21 is a genetic defect caused by having an extra 21 chromosome. Since it is a genetic defect, it causes that presentation. Although some with DS (downs syndrome) have milder forms it just depends on the case) However, all forms cause some form of MR (mental retardation).
he a funny dude
was I supposed to laugh starting at 8:12 to the scene where he’s playing guitar? because I laughed really hard.
just pause at 8:12..that pretty much sums up the video
ALAMO?
I absolutely love this video, it shows that kids with special needs can be normal too!
@Exogenesix19 its caused by an extra twenty first chromosome
Whoah whoah whoah. This is nice and all but, I dont understand how I came across this video. I was watching plays of Randy Moss, kept clicking related videos and ended up on a documentary on down syndrome. How did I get here o.O
why are all the animalsl ooking at him and running away when hes playing guitar
@exogenesix I’m pretty sure they’re born with it
You should check out the video, “Puppies Trained to Help Children with Special Needs” on the Project2Heal channel. This organization breeds, trains and donates lab puppies to help children with special needs, such as Down syndrome. What a great cause!
LOL

@Fairy403 You can’t imagine the joy a child with Down syndrome brings a family.
We are so happy that our daughter Christina has a secret code!
@VeronicaAngel123
- meiosis I errors: 76-80% of maternal meiotic errors and 67-73% of all instances of free trisomy 21.
- maternal meiosis II errors: 20-24% of maternal errors and 18-20% of all cases of free trisomy 21
- in rare families in which there is paternal nondisjunction, most of the errors occur in meiosis II
- in 5% of trisomic individuals the supernumerary chromosome 21 appears to result from an error in mitosis
Very informative

@TheLizzie109, Don’t feel sad about them, they are learning and at least they aren’t dead.
But the cure that is promised will take time to create. Whether or not the have the resources. And the burden of having a child with this is beyond imagine. I have a cousin with “Down Syndrome” and he does take extra care, guidance, and time. Sorry to be the devil’s advocate… I actually moderately agree with you.
this is sad .but very intresting im learning it in science class
im doing a project in my science class and we each get a genetic disorder (mine being down syndrome) and create our own website. THANKS SO MUCH THIS HELPED!
thank you very much for this informative video .. Dr.Turki from saudi arabia
I acknowledge it’s incorrectness in wording, but it is an interesting video and very informative. My son was diagnosed at birth with Down’s and I’m happy to gather any information I can about it.
It’s called Down’s Syndrome in the UK and it’s just named after dr. John Langdon Down, who first described it in 1866.
3:19 “and hwhy”
“Cool hhwhip” Lol
good1
“Down” rather than “Down Syndrome” was used to describe people with this condition at the beginning of the clip. Moreover, that’s interesting connection-using fetal stem cells to develop tests to screen for down syndrome which will ultimately lead to tests for DS that will simply lead to more abortions rather than the cure that such scientists have been promising for years.
DS is not “deblilitating” nowadays, as the average life expectancy for DS people is currently 60 yrs of age. Moreover, “Down” is not the proper term for the condition.
miscarriage probably.
>;-)
trisomy21
You mean one less trisomy 21 chromosome? you’d be normal wouldn’t you? if you had one chromosome 21, it would be chromosome 21 monosomy.
Great video. I can tell there are people of Swedish ancestry in this video.
What is it called whene you have one less chromison?
Up syndrom?
