Amputations are less necessary now, but when they are, the surgeon knows how to do it properly.

Artificial limbs are now tailor made for each patient, contain much better functionality, and are much more useful. Also much more expensive of course.

a lot! The types of surgeries to save more of a limb. keep parts that are important. techniques like having to amputate a foot but keeping the heel pad so that the person can still weight bare on their limb. Original lower limb prosthetics didn’t have ankle joints, it was called a SACH foot, then came a single-axis foot, which only let your foot bend up and down, now there’s a multi axis foot, as well as the stored energy feet, which are the ones made for athletes, the really expensive carbon fiber kind.
For amputations higher up, there are also much better sockets that fit better and more attention is paid to maintaining the residual limb (where it got cut off). They are more light weight, and a lot more attention is paid to the asthetic part. They make arms with hair and hands that look real….anyways…that’s just a little….
