Medical technology question, could an knee disartic amputee have a fake tibia put in?

Question by wade: Medical technology question, could an knee disartic amputee have a fake tibia put in?
i am a knee disarticulation amputee. i have my knee and kneecap still and i can still flex my quad muscles and hamstring muscles. however i do not have a tibia after my knee therefore i cannot control my prosthesis on extension and bending it. what i would like to know is if there is any way an artificial tibia could be put onto the end of my leg giving me the ability to do this. i have a lot of extra skin/tissue after my knee thus skin expanding to go down around my tibia would be no problem. however i was just curious with all the bone lenghthening and shortening that we can do nowadays if it was possible for me to get a fake tibia put in or not. i have heard my surgeon say he does not think it would be possible but to check around. so if you have any ideas or thoughts please share. thanks

I don’t think they can do that type of bone graph. although they do all sorts of crazy things with kadaver bone now adays.

I personally would be afraid of rejection and loosing more of your knee and healthy femur.

Long limbs stink I know how you feel. it may be possible but you would need to speak with an expert in bone graphs. It isn’t just bone involved muscles will also need to be worked on.Do you still have muscles or just extra flesh. I don’t know if they can reattach muscle to bone.
